How might we design a desktop organizer that supports real user workflows?

CONTEXT

Clutter is often a sign of active thinking and creative energy. While each item may have a designated storage space, they tend to spread across the desk during real use.

INSIGHTS — How people actually work

GRIDSTACK FORM LANGUAGE

Calm technical | Soft architectural | Precise minimalism | Unified modularity

In 2025, Gridstack launched its first product, a modular, NAS system for creatives. As creative work increasingly spans both digital and physical spaces, an opportunity emerges for Gridstack to extend its ecosystem into analog organization, building on its existing audience and workflows.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITY

Analog organization for the growing Gridstack customer base

IDEATION

Modular concepts that afford clutter and tempt cleanup

PHYSICAL MODEL

1:1 scale prototype to test assembly and usage

Existing desk organizers aim to hide clutter, when the real issue lies elsewhere. These concepts explore designs that accommodate clutter while subtly encouraging cleanup through premium design cues.

EXPLORATION

Prototyping to identify features, dimensions, and interactions

FINAL DESIGN

A modular desktop organizer designed to work with the creative process
